Many people don’t think the introductions are important other than making sure the DJ gets the names right. However, by the time the intros, blessing and toasts are done, your guests won’t even remember who was introduced or what was said.

A traditional introduction would be something like “Ladies and Gentlemen, here is our bridal party……Bridesmaid Jan Smith escorted by John Doe” and it would continue as such until “Ladies and Gentlemen please rise and help me welcome for the first time Mr and Mrs Smith”.  For some this may be a satisfactory introduction, but for most bride & grooms they are looking for individuality and uniqueness.

Here are a few ways to add a personal touch to the introductions and your grand entrance:

  • Have your DJ introduce the bridal party as your wedding party.
  • The DJ does not need to mention bridesmaid/groomsmen for each person. Your guests will know who they are. Save the title for the maid/matron of honor and best man. This will shorten the time length by reducing the repetition that can make introductions bland or boring.
  • Try personalizing your introductions with different music for the parents, wedding party and your grand entrance. If you want to be really different, choose a song for each couple or even each member of your wedding party.
  • Looking to add a little flair? Ask your DJ to say something specific about each member of your wedding party. We’re not talking just about “cousin of the bride”, but something personal about that person. “Jan Smith and John Doe. Jan can make anyone smile or laugh, John likes to play video games. If your DJ has the ability he can insert specific songs or sound bytes to accompany what is said about each person.
  • Remember, your introductions should be exciting. It should have a natural progression in energy from low or some to moderate or high by the time you are introduced.
  • Finally, pick a song for your grand entrance that is representative of you and your soon to be husband.

Adding a little personalization into your introductions will not only capture your guests attention, but you will be creating a unique setting that will show some of your personality. Your friends and family will appreciate this and respond better throughout the evening because they know this is who you really are. If you are not sure what to do with your introductions, we can help. If you have some new ideas, let us know. We would love to incorporate it into your reception.
